Overview / About the Scholarship
The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) and Birmingham City University. It is specifically designed for high-achieving candidates from developing Commonwealth countries who possess the potential to make a significant contribution to their home country's development but lack the financial means to study in the UK.
Unlike standard merit scholarships, this award is deeply rooted in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Candidates must apply for specific Shared Scholarship courses approved under one of the CSC's six development themes, such as Strengthening Health Systems, Promoting Global Prosperity, or Access, Inclusion, and Opportunity. At BCU, this scholarship is more than just financial aid; it is an invitation into a global network of scholars dedicated to social and economic change. The university provides a supportive academic environment in the heart of Birmingham, ensuring that scholars gain not only a degree but also the practical skills and cross-cultural insights necessary to lead transformative projects upon returning home.
