Overview / About the Scholarship

Chevening offers a fully funded opportunity to pursue a one-year Master’s degree in any subject at any UK university. The program aims to empower future leaders who demonstrate a clear commitment to achieving positive change and building lasting relationships with the UK. It is highly competitive, with a global selection rate of approximately 2–3%.

Scholarship Value / Benefits

Chevening is one of the most comprehensive scholarship programs in the world. It covers:

Full University Tuition Fees: No publicly stated cap for standard taught Master's programs.

Monthly Living Stipend: Approximately £1,516 for students in London and £1,215 for those outside London.

Travel Costs: Economy-class return flights to and from the UK booked through an approved agent.

Visa Fees: Full cost of an entry clearance application.

Additional Grants: Includes an arrival allowance, a homeward departure allowance, a thesis/dissertation grant, and a contribution toward TB testing if required.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

Citizenship: Citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

Residency: Return to their home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends.

Education: Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for a UK postgraduate program (typically a 2:1 honours degree equivalent).

Work Experience: Have at least two years (minimum 2,800 hours) of professional work experience gained after graduation.

University Offers: Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and receive an unconditional offer from at least one by the July deadline.

Level & Field of Study

Level: One-year, full-time taught Master’s degree.

Field of Study: Any subject area at a UK university.

Course Requirements: The course must lead to a Master’s qualification and cannot be part-time, distance learning, or longer than 12 months.

Host University / Provider Info

Scholars have the opportunity to study at over 150 UK universities, providing a vast range of academic environments and specialisations across the United Kingdom.

Course Selection: Applicants must choose three different courses. These can be at three different institutions or multiple courses at the same university.

Eligible Institutions: Any UK university is eligible; popular choices for international students include Birmingham City University, Leeds Beckett University, Amity University London and Others

Partner Awards: Chevening maintains specific Partner Awards with certain institutions. These partnerships may offer additional benefits, exclusive networking events, or specialised support for scholars.

University Admission: You must apply for your chosen courses directly through the universities in addition to your Chevening application. To remain eligible, you must receive an unconditional offer from at least one of these choices by the July deadline.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following via the Online Application System (OAS):

Educational Credentials: Undergraduate degree certificate and official transcripts.

Identity Proof: A valid passport or national ID card.

References: Names and contact details of two referees (academic or professional).

Essays: Four mandatory essays (max 300 words each) covering leadership, networking, study plan, and career goals.

University Offer: An unconditional admission offer from at least one of your three chosen UK courses.

How to Apply

The application process follows a strict annual timeline:

Online Registration: Register and complete the eligibility quiz on the official Chevening website.

Submit Application: Typically opens in August and closes in early November.

Shortlisting: Applications are reviewed by independent committees and British embassies from November to January.

Interview: Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview at the British High Commission or embassy in their home country between February and April.

Final Results: Successful candidates are typically notified in June.
