Overview / About the Scholarship
The PETRONAS Education Scholarship is a high-value merit award designed to nurture future leaders for the energy industry. It is aimed at outstanding Malaysian students who have recently completed their SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) or an equivalent qualification. The scholarship covers the entire academic journey, from foundation/pre-university programs through to the completion of a first undergraduate degree at a world-class institution.
Scholarship Value / Benefits
This is a fully-funded award. All financial values below are estimated in USD ($) based on current 2026 exchange rates:
- Full Tuition Fees: 100% of university tuition and examination fees paid directly to the institution (approx. $23,000–$28,000/year).
- Monthly Maintenance Allowance: A generous stipend for living costs and accommodation (approx. $1,700–$2,200/month).
- Economy airfare at the start and end of the degree, plus a return flight to Malaysia during the second year.
- Book allowances, computer loans, and thesis/final year project funding.
- One-off Allowances: Settling-in Allowance: Approx $1,000.
- Clothing Allowance: Approx. $800.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the PETRONAS PESP, you must:
Be a Malaysian citizen aged between 17 and 19.
Possess excellent academic results (Minimum 8A's in SPM 2024/2025 for local programs or specific A+ requirements for overseas programs).
Demonstrate strong leadership potential and active participation in extra-curricular activities.
Be in good health and not be a recipient of any other active scholarship or financial aid.
Level & Field of Study
Level: Undergraduate (Bachelor's degree) only.
Field of Study: Focused on industry-aligned subjects:
Engineering: Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic, Petroleum, Civil.
Science & Technology: Geoscience, Applied Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science.
Business & Law: Accounting, Economics, Law, Actuarial Science, Marketing.

Required Documents
The application is conducted through the PETRONAS Online Application System (OAS). You will need:
- Identification: Copy of Applicant's IC and Passport (if already available).
- Academic Results: Certified copies of SPM results or equivalent.
- Financial Evidence: Parents' latest payslips, Form B/BE, or income declaration forms.
- Extra-curricular Proof: Certificates of achievement in sports, leadership, or community service.
How to Apply
- Online Registration: Create an account on the PETRONAS Education Sponsorship portal during the application window (typically March/April 2026).
- Submit Application: Complete the online form and upload the required documents before the strict deadline.
- Interviews: Finalists undergo a formal interview with PETRONAS assessors.
- Offer: Successful candidates receive a "Sponsorship Offer Letter" and must then secure an admission offer from an approved UK university.
- PETRONAS YoungStars Day (PYD): Shortlisted candidates are invited to an assessment day that includes personality and thinking skills assessments, as well as leadership activities.
