University of South Wales Entry Requirements for International Students

The University of South Wales (USW) welcomes international applicants and evaluates them based on a combination of academic achievement, English proficiency, and potential for success.

For the 2026/27 academic year, the entry requirements are structured as follows:
Undergraduate (Bachelor's) Entry Requirements
  • Academic Requirements: Applicants typically need a high school qualification equivalent to UK A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB). USW uses the standard UCAS tariff system for its offers (typically ranging from 80 to 120 points depending on the course).
  • Foundation Pathway: If your local high school diploma does not meet the requirements for direct entry to Year 1, USW offers International Foundation Programs to bridge the academic gap.
  • Advanced Entry: If you hold a Higher National Diploma (HND), an Advanced Diploma, or have completed several years of university in your home country, you may be considered for entry into the second or third year of a related degree.
Postgraduate (Master's) Entry Requirements
  • Academic Requirements: You generally need a recognized Bachelor's degree with a minimum of a 2:2 honours (or international equivalent). For competitive courses like the MBA, a 2:1 is often preferred.
  • Professional Experience: USW highly values professional experience. For the MBA Global, applicants typically need at least 2 years of post-graduation work experience, though some other Master's programs may accept relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Research Degrees: For MPhil or PhD entry, you usually need a Master's degree in a relevant field and must submit a detailed research proposal of approximately 2,000 words.
English Language Requirements
If English is not your first language, you must provide proof of proficiency through a Secure English Language Test (SELT).
  • Standard Requirement (UG & PGT): An IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in any component.
  • Postgraduate Research (PGR): Usually requires an IELTS 6.5 with at least 5.5 in each band.
  • Accepted Alternatives: USW accepts a wide range of alternatives, including PTE Academic (minimum 59), TOEFL iBT (minimum 72), and Duolingo (typically 110 overall). They also recognize high grades in English from specific high school boards
Additional Considerations
  • Portfolio and Audition: Courses in Art, Design, and Creative Industries often require a digital portfolio and an audition. Interviews are common for healthcare, teaching, and social work programs.
  • Credibility Interview: As part of the CAS process, international students may be required to attend a Pre-CAS Credibility Interview with the university to discuss their motivations for studying in the UK and at USW specifically.
Required Documentation: To apply, you must provide:
  • Academic transcripts and certificates.
  • One or two professional/academic references.
  • A Personal Statement (Statement of Purpose).
  • A clear copy of your passport.
